Sana Albaz, AR Co-Founder who helped revolutionize childcare and education in the Bedouin community and who started and led a community center in Tel Sheva, passed away this year. She was a great part of the Abrahamic Reunion family, and she is greatly missed. We’ve send condolences to her husband Khalil and their family, and welcome you to add your comments.
Sana, with her husband Khalil Albaz, was a founding member of the Abrahamic Reunion back in 2003. They attended a formative group retreat in Cyprus where the Abrahamic Reunion really took shape in 2006, and were steadfast supporters of interfaith peacebuilding in their Bedouin community of Tel Sheva, in the Negev, the South of Israel, where they convened interfaith meetings, hosted numerous Abrahamic Reunion Peace Journeys, and welcomed travelers on Tours that came to support the AR.
She was known prominently for revolutionizing child care and education in the Bedouin community in the Negev, and being selected to light the torch for Israel’s 60th Independence Day.
Sana and Khalil were warriors for peace, and traveled to the 2015 Parliament of the World’s Religions in Salt Lake City, and after the Parliament they presented to audiences in California. They attended a speaking tour in Germany in 2016, which visited 8 cities and presented in schools, universities, and congregations, and were part of the AR Delegation to the Toronto Parliament of the World’s Religions in 2018.
Sana Albaz was known for her passionate and emphatic speeches and belief in peace, God, shared humanity, and the ability to live together harmoniously, compassionately, and empathetically. She and her family endured many hardships on the road of peacebuilding, including last year in 2021 when Khalil was attacked outside their Mosque in Tel Sheva, and seeing the continuing struggle for equality and rights for the Bedouin Community. They experienced displacement and rallied for a better pathway forward for all.
Khalil and their children and grandchildren live in Tel Sheva, in the South of Israel, and welcome your messages, photos, and memories of Sana. We’ll post remembrances of Sana here and on Facebook, as well.
